During the visit, a working meeting was held with Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Viktor Karankevich.
The operational work carried out at Belarusian NPP fully complies with international norms and standards. This was stated by the IAEA Director General, sharing his impressions of visiting the plant with journalists.
"I visited this very important nuclear power plant for the first time. My visit began with a very warm, kind meeting with the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. We exchanged views on the situation in nuclear energy in the world as a whole, on safety issues in this area, the situation in neighboring countries. The President assured me that Belarus intends to continue close cooperation with the IAEA, especially on issues of ensuring the safety of Belarusian NPP and other plants that may be built in the future. During my visit to the plant, I was able to learn the work process and make sure that the operational work carried out at the plant fully complies with international norms and standards," said Rafael Grossi.
At the end of the visit, the head of the IAEA left a note in the enterprise’s Book of Distinguished Guests.
“I would like to thank the staff and management of Ostrovets NPP for their professionalism and excellent work, providing Belarus with safe, clean nuclear energy, and for the fact that all this is done in full compliance with nuclear energy standards.
“You can count on the IAEA to continue and expand our bilateral cooperation,” the recording says.
