The minister noted that the construction of Belarusian NPP is at the final stage. In June, an act of acceptance of the first power unit of the plant into commercial operation was signed. The readiness of the second unit of BelNPP is almost 90%. Now hot trial of the reactor system is going. This year, nuclear fuel will be loaded into the core of the reactor of the second power unit of BelNPP. This will initiate the physical start-up phase of the unit. Its commissioning is planned for 2022.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the IAEA Secretariat for significant support and the opportunity to actively use the entire range of Agency tools during the construction of the NPP, including those provided within the framework of technical cooperation projects.
“Nuclear and radiation safety is an unconditional priority for our country, and we strictly adhere to it, developing cooperation with our international partners on the principles of openness and transparency,” Viktor Karankevich stressed.
