“We voluntarily requested the mission (IPPAS. – BelTA’s note). Previously, these issues and some aspects were discussed during the current INIR 3 mission,” Mikhail Mikhaduk noted.
According to him, Belarus intends to continue cooperation with the IAEA in the implementation of the national nuclear energy program. “As for further cooperation, we don’t refuse and will not refuse any instrument offered by the IAEA. Because the agency has collected a “hub” of all world knowledge in the field of nuclear energy, this is very important for us,” the deputy minister emphasized.
Mikhail Chudakov, Deputy Director General, Head of the IAEA Department of Nuclear Energy, confirmed that Belarusian side sent a letter on the next mission to the agency’s director general, Rafael Grossi. This mission in Belarus will be included in the IAEA work plan for 2021.
Belarusian NPP with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2,400 MW is being built under Russian project near Ostrovets (Grodno region). The general contractor is the engineering division of state corporation Rosatom (ASE). The commissioning of the first power unit is scheduled for 2020, the second - in 2021.
