The Constitution Day of the Republic of Belarus is a public holiday that is celebrated annually in the country on March 15, according to the Decree of the President of the Republic dated March 26, 1998 No. 157.
We all live in Belarus and are citizens of the Republic of Belarus. This honorary title gives us certain rights and obligations, which are enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus.
Preamble of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus
“We, the people of the Republic of Belarus, proceeding from responsibility for the present and future of Belarus, conscious of ourselves as a full-fledged subject of the world community and reaffirming our commitment to universal human values, based on our inherent right to self-determination, relying on the centuries-old history of the development of Belarusian statehood, striving to establish the rights and freedoms each citizen of the Republic of Belarus, wishing to ensure civil consent, unshakable foundations of democracy and the rule of law, we accept this on Constitution - the Basic Law of the Republic of Belarus.”
In the Republic of Belarus, the Constitution 1994 is in effect with amendments and additions adopted in republican referendums on November 24, 1996 and October 17, 2004. It was adopted on March 15, 1994 at the 13th session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Belarus of the 12th convocation and is the first Constitution in the sovereign republic in history and the fifth in a row Constitution of Belarus adopted after the October revolution 1917.
The current Constitution 1994of the Republic of Belarus is the main, fundamental law of the state. It forms the whole system of current legislation and defines the competence of state bodies.
