Japan has begun test power supplies from the world's largest nuclear power plant

Written by BelTA

Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) has begun testing power transmission from Unit 6 of the world's largest nuclear power plant, the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa in Niigata Prefecture. This marks the first time power has been transmitted from the plant in 14 years, following the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi disaster, Kyodo News reports.

During the tests, the company plans to disconnect and reconnect the generator several times, gradually increasing power from 20% to 50%, and then to the maximum level.

Full commercial operation of the reactor is planned to begin by March 18, 2026.

It was previously reported that on February 9, TEPCO restarted Unit 6 for the second time in 2026. The first restart took place on January 21, but was soon halted after a safety system was triggered during the removal of control rods. The company emphasized that the failure was caused by alarm settings, not an equipment malfunction.
