«We have no doubts, - Krzysztof Thuzhevsky says on the position of Polish government on the construction of a nuclear power plant. - Our country should reduce the share of coal in the so-called energy balance - its share in energy production should be reduced to 50%. One way to achieve this is nuclear energy.
«But that is not all. In the country, we have some regions in which the construction of a coal-fired power plant is impossible», - the Energy Minister adds.
Last year, Krzysztof Thuzhevsky said that if the decision to build a nuclear power plant had been made that year, the launch of the first power unit would have occurred approximately in 2029 or 2030. However, the adoption of the final decision and the announcement of a tender for choosing the technology by which the station will be built is still being postponed. What is the possible cost of construction? They say about 70-75 billion zł.
«A coal or gas power station costs about half of an atomic power unit», - Krzysztof Thuzhevsky notes and lists the benefits that will appear in the long term. «One power unit per 1000 MW is 11 thousand tons of coal per day. This is three trains per day», - the minister counts.
