Belarusian NPP Director General Sergei Bobovich took part in a meeting of the Sustainable Development Council dedicated to the 40th anniversary of Chernobyl disaster

Sergei Bobovich, Director General of State Enterprise “Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant”, took part in a thematic meeting of the Sustainable Development Council.

The event, timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Chernobyl nuclear accident, was held under the auspices of the National Coordinator for the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

During his speech, Sergei Bobovich emphasized that the lessons of Chernobyl formed the foundation for the development of a modern national nuclear and radiation safety system. He noted that the Belarusian Generation III+ NPP project implements advanced safety systems that prevent a repeat of past accident scenarios.

The Director General emphasized the safety standards implemented at Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, which are regularly inspected by international missions, including the IAEA.

The meeting was also attended by Energy Minister Denis Moroz, Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov, and representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organizations (the UN and the CIS).

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi addressed the meeting participants via video message.

Participants discussed the transformation of approaches from disaster recovery to sustainable development in the affected regions.
