Written by Ministry of energy of the Republic of Belarus

The Minister of Energy of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Karankevich and the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak on June 9, 2020 discussed current issues of cooperation in the gas sector.

Negotiations took place in a video conference format. The meeting was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Russian Federation Vladimir Semashko, as well as the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Deputy Head of the Executive Committee - Advisor to the Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom PJSC Alexander Meshkov.

The parties exchanged views on fulfilling the terms of payment for Russian gas supplied to Belarus. At the same time, the position of the Belarusian side remains unchanged: to resolve disagreements between business entities regarding the price of gas, taking into account its calorie content, Gazprom Transgaz Belarus needs to provide a methodology for determining the actual average monthly calorific value of natural gas with metrological confirmation of its suitability in accordance with the law Belarus. In addition, the issues of Russian gas supplies in 2020 were raised. Over the past period of 2020, there has been a tendency to lower prices for Russian gas supplied to Europe - both spot and long-term contracts. In this regard, the Belarusian side once again noted the need to review gas prices for Belarus with the determination of its correct and fair level.

The Belarusian side expressed interest in the speedy resolution of these issues and the search for mutually acceptable solutions for further cooperation with the Russian side in the gas sector.
